The foundation of modern Hindu Philosophy is VEDĀNTA with its various schools.
And Vedānta is supported by three epistemic sources:-
- Upaṇiṣads
- Brahmā sūtras which a commentary on the Upaṇiṣads and
- BHAGAVAD GITA.
And the since the Upaṇiṣads are recondite and require study under accomplished teachers - the Bhagavad Gita has been the most popular of didactic works to have shaped Indian Hindu thought.
All the great acharyas have written commentaries on the Gita and the three most outstanding of them were:-
- Shankaracharya (700 CE to 750 CE)
- Ramanujacharya (1017 CE to 1137 CE)
- Madhvacharya (1238 CE to 1317 CE)
